Indian Furniture Guide

Tangkoko's guide to buying furniture online

When you consider buying furniture online there are a few things that you should bear in mind. Buying online is much different from buying from a traditional furniture shop - there's no way you can touch or feel the product before you purchase, and so you have to visualise the furniture in your own home.

Often people will try to find a style of furniture that they like in their local furniture shop - then they look for similar furniture online. This results in savings for the consumer, but with the peace of mind of knowing that a particular type of furniture, or a particular colour of wood, will look good in their homes.

Indian furniture, like similar furniture imported from Indonesia, has a particular look and feel to it - in many ways its similar to the tradidional furniture that's made in the UK and that adorns many 'classical' style of homes. As the quality (and quanitity) of imported goods has improved, so has the range, and whereas before you had products that were of considerable size and needed a good sized room to look good in, now the furniture looks good in any home. New machining processes have resulted in furniture of a very high standard, and the designers and furniture makers are putting out more and more styles each year.

  • As with any purchase online you should always use a debit or credit card for security

  • Use a reputable website

  • Check the sizes (furniture dimensions) online - allow a little extra room at the sides and rear.

  • Use a furniture website that offers high quality images, and as many as possible.

  • Be wary of any online furniture shops that do not give you their address and contact details

  • Keep a copy of all the documentation when you purchased your furniture (email confirmation etc).

  • If you have any questions, then make sure you ask the furniture website! The vast majority of websites will post their email address, or give you a contact form. Many will allow you to telephone them direct, and don't be afraid to do so!

  • Finally make sure that the website has a secure ordering process (the web page where you enter your credit card details). If possible order from a website that uses Worldpay or Google Checkout, as both of these mechanisms are secure.

Indian Furniture is now one of the most sought after types, especially for tables and desks. Items are usually built out of broad woods, usually dark or stained, and often left in a 'rustic' condition - i.e unvarnished and without polish. When you buy a piece of Indian furniture then it's relatively easy to care for it - Tangkoko stock a range of cleaning products, as well as accessories.
