TANGKOKO SCOOPS THIRD PRIZE IN PRESTIGIOUS AWARD CEREMONY

Tangkoko has won third prize, in the national On-Line Green Awards 2008, also known as the OLGAs

The results of the second annual On-Line Green Awards - the OLGAs 2008 - were announced yesterday at an award ceremony in Central London Garden. The OLGAs encourage an environmentally-friendly aspect to shopping online, and reward companies for impressive strides in this e-retail area.

The six nominees in the 2008 Small Retail Category were Boiler Juice, Windtrap, Celtic Sheepskin, eCoffeeShop, Kid-Eco and Tangkoko. Celtic Sheepskin took first prize, with Tangkoko awarded a commendable third place. "We are really pleased that we came third," said Dan Grandage, co-owner of Tangkoko. "It's an honour to be in amongst other major retailers, especially as we are a new company."

In the 2008 Large Retailer Category, the six nominees were eBay, Ocado, Marks and Spencer, easyJet, Kelkoo and Ebuyer. Ocado, which specialises in home grocery delivery, stormed ahead in this category, taking first prize. As well as these two categories, which were decided by online public vote, various other prizes were decided by an independent panel of judges.

The all-day event, which secured sponsorship from major names including MSN, Royal Mail, Secure Trading, Home Delivery Network and ByBox, also incorporated talks on green issues. These included a speech from sustainability expert Julia Hailes who gave tips on how to make your shopping more eco-friendly. There were also update talks from Heriot Watt University, which is working with IMRG - the leading industry body for global

e-retailing which presented the OLGAs - in a £2M Government-funded piece of research comparing the environmental impact of online and conventional retailing.

With the e-commerce market expanding at 40% year on year, the OLGAs help to educate the industry on ways of operating ethically and efficiently. "Listening to some of the other major companies up for an award, made us think about our delivery services, and ways we can advance our green techniques even further," said Dan. "We will go for it again next year, and see if we can improve on our third position."

At Tangkoko, we are delighted to have been nominated for a prestigious OLGA - the Online Green Awards* 2008 sponsored by big names including MSN and Royal Mail.

As an ethical Indonesian furniture company, it is a privilege to be placed in the top six national companies in the Best Small Retailer category, acknowledging our commitment to green and ethical Indonesian furniture.
